Roughly 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then found many other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report early analysis suggest the fluid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; investigators are presently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for details.
A senior political figure commented the incident rendered him stunned and required to be addressed quickly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist attack five years ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
